Microsoft says don’t manually install Windows 10 Creators Update
Now this is a first. It’s barely been a month since Microsoft opened the Creators Update floodgates and reception is rather lukewarm. In the past, Microsoft would be very aggressive in getting users to update to the latest version of Windows 10. This time, however, it is taking things slowly. Almost too slowly for some, which has lead those to … Continue reading...
There’s a Windows 10 smartwatch you can’t have
Two of the three (or four) major software platforms are on smartwatches. There’s Android Wear and there’s Apple watchOS. For years, Microsoft fans have been waiting and crying out for a Windows-powered wearable. After the short live of the Microsoft Band, that possibility seemed dead in the water. Well, not anymore. Sort of. The good news: there is indeed an … Continue reading...
Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update is finally rolling out
Better late than never, as they always say. And considering this is Microsoft and smartphones we’re talking about, the default is, more often than not, “never”. Still, the Creators Update for the mobile version of Microsoft’s operating system has been promised and, in truth, was already rolled out to its Insiders group. Following the release of the update for Windows … Continue reading...
Windows 10 Mail and Calendar apps get Gmail support for advanced features
Microsoft has gradually been updating the default mail and calendar apps in Windows 10, turning them into viable alternatives for users who prefer desktop clients to those on the web. This includes the most recent update from February, which introduced the Focused Inbox feature, automatically detecting important emails and presenting them first. Now Microsoft has announced that it’s allowing users … Continue reading...

Chuwi SurBook to try and fill in the Microsoft Surface’s shoes
Next month, Microsoft might be dashing the hopes of Surface fans. For one, its Surface Pro 5 might just be a small, incremental step up from the Surface Pro 4 launched nearly two years ago. For another, the Surface Book 2 might no longer be a convertible but a regular “Windows Cloud” clamshell laptop. Disheartening as those rumors might be, … Continue reading...
Samsung DeX first impressions: Impressive and impractical
Along with the grand launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ yesterday, we also saw the announcements for new accessories like the new Gear VR, the new Gear 360 and the all-new DeX cradle. The DeX cradle comes with 2 USB ports, 1 USB Type C port, Ethernet port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an HDMI port. Clearly this was DeX’s first shot in the spotlight and instead of heading to the Gear VR and Gear 360 booths in the demo area I was more than eager to try out Samsung’s DeX, a cradle that bas...
Microsoft To-Do set to replace Wunderlist, preview now out
When Microsoft sunsetted the popular Sunrise calendar app that it acquired, there were fears that it would do likewise when it acquired popular list app Wunderlist. Consider those fears well-founded as Microsoft releases the preview version of the generic-sounding Microsoft To-Do. It’s too early to say if To-Do will be able to match up to the standards set by Wunderlist, … Continue reading...
Windows 10 will be getting a Power throttling feature
The Windows 10 Creators Update introduced a Game Mode that would, in theory, hand over most of the hardware resources and processing power to games. Now it seems that Microsoft has plans to go the other way and introduce a feature that would reduce programs’ use of resources in order to prolong battery life. “Power throttling” isn’t going to be … Continue reading...
